Jack Oatey is to be forever remembered as a master of Australian Football – and the man who changed the way it was played to emphasise skill, with handball as both an attacking and defensive weapon.

Oatey’s playing career was interrupted by World War II, but he still established himself as a premiership rover in 181 SANFL League Games with Norwood, while showing an eagerness to coach.

In an intense rivalry with Fos Williams, Oatey ultimately set an SANFL Record with 10 Premierships – including five in a row with Sturt from 1966 -1970.
