Glynis was the first Australian to win the Heptathlon at the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. Glynis was also a finalist in the 100m Hurdles and the Long Jump finishing 5th and 7th respectively. She was also Heptathlon Gold Medallist at the 1982 Brisbane Commonwealth Games and a bronze medallist in the 100m hurdles at the 1986 Edinburgh Games.

She was selected as a travelling reserve for the first IAAF World Cup in Dusseldorf, Germany at just 17 years of age. Due to injury to Penny Gillies, Glynis competed in the 100m Hurdles. Glynis was selected for the 1978 Commonwealth Games in Edmonton, Canada where she had to withdraw due to a stress fracture to her fibula.

In 1981, the IAAF replaced the Pentathlon with the Heptathlon including the Javelin and the 800m. Glynis won the inaugural national title in Adelaide with 5554 points. Glynis represented Australia in the 1981 Pacific Conference Games in Christchurch, New Zealand and finished second in the Pentathlon.

Glynis was named both Australian Sportswoman and Australian Sportsperson of the Year for 1984. Early the following year, she was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia in the New Year’s Honours list.
